I became interested in art at the early age of five. My first efforts were detailed drawings of TV cowboys Hopalong Cassidy and Roy Rogers. In high school I took an art class lead by John Jancar, an enthusiastic, encouraging instructor, who introduced me to painting. His emphasis on spontaneity and color has been a strong influence in my painting style. While attending high school I was awarded weekend scholarships to two leading art schools, Choinard Art Institute (Cal Arts) and Art Center College of Design. I was awarded a full scholarship to California College of the Arts, where I attended after high school.
In my career, I worked as vice president of engineering in a small company for 20 years. We designed and built electrical/electronic equipment for virtually every free world satellite, plus the Space Shuttle, Hubble Space Telescope, Mars Lander, and deep space probes. Many of our designs are still orbiting the earth.
I was able to retire early from my engineering career to indulge my love of painting and to enjoy life’s adventures with my true love, my wife Sherry. We have two kids and three grandkids. Of course, they are all smart, funny, and good looking!
My home is in Dripping Springs, Texas, where I paint in my studio with a beautiful view of the Hill Country. We are members of Dripping Springs Presbyterian Church.
